How to Get Motivated
Get up and get moving because it’s your time to shine. There is never going to be that perfect time that you are waiting for... so why not start now?! There are always going to be a million reasons why you shouldn’t do something, but quit talking yourself out of your goals and seize the moment.
A lot of people have asked me how I am so motivated so, I wanted to dedicate a post to talk about it.
THE FIRST STEP:
The first step is getting enough motivation to make a goal. Why should you make a goal? Because maybe your life is boring or you want more excitement in your life. Making goals helps me create the life I want and become the person I want to be. When you make goals, you can try new things, get out of your comfort zone, and meet new people.
Goals can also help you figure out the things you like and the things you don’t. What do you want to spend your time doing? If you don’t know or want more options, making goals can help you step out of the box.
Goals can ellavate your life!
The more you prepare now, the more freedom you have later. For example, although sometimes I want to postpone my homework, I know that if I get it done right away, I will have more time to do the things I really want to do.
FINDING YOUR WHY:
To get motivated I think it is so important to find your “why.” Why are you doing what you are doing? For my why I want to use this quote by Sharon Chepchumba that reads, “Create the life you can’t wait to wake up to.” I want to create a life that I am excited to live every day and I choose goals that will get me there. It’s important to remember that the life I want is probably completely different than the life you want; so, we will probably have completely different goals. And that’s OK!
Some of my fitness related goals have to do with creating an exciting life right now, and some of my school goals have to do with creating the life I want later. All of these goals are leading up to me becoming who I want to be.
We also have different versions of who we want to be which is why we need to stop comparing ourselves to other people. There is no one person who is the same. We have different end goals and different ways of achieving those goals; so, with that in mind, comparing yourself to someone else is only going to make it harder to achieve your own goals. Stay in your lane, and focus on bettering yourself and your life!
I have high expectations for my future life, so I need to have high expectations along the way. If you want to ellavate your life, you have to ellavate your journey.
TIPS:
Breaking your goals down into pieces can make things seem less daunting. Pick your main goal and really focus in on it. Then, sit down and write out how you are going to make it happen, step by step.
Make sure everything in your life has a purpose because if there’s no purpose, then why are you doing it? If there is a purpose, then you should be doing all that you can to make it happen.
Ask for help! There is no shame in asking for a little assistance to get you going.
Reward yourself along the way. When you accomplish a portion of your goal, reward yourself with something you want. Sometimes I reward myself with buying a fun treat or a new pair of Lululemon leggings.
Have fun in the process. Although not every minute of the journey will necessarily be fun, there are some things we can do to make the process more enjoyable. For instance, one of my goals is to get straight A’s and one way I like to make it fun is by going to cute coffee shops to do my work.
THINGS TO REMEMBER ALONG THE WAY:
Everyone loses motivation, you just have to be willing to push through. When you are really unmotivated, come back to your “why.” Remember what you are working towards. To get out of a funk, find something fun that gets you excited to be living in this beautiful world. It could be making a fall dessert, it could be setting some time for yourself to watch a movie and eat popcorn, it could be whatever makes you happy. You might need to take a day or two to reset and take some time off. It also helps to try to focus on the little things in life and practice gratitude. When life gets hard, it can be difficult to be grateful and excited about the little, fun things, when sometimes what we need most is to appreciate those small pockets of joy. The last thing that it’s important to remember is the feeling of accomplishment. After you complete a task, you finish feeling proud of what you have done, and this is an incredible feeling. When you are feeling low, you can recall this feeling and get a new sense of motivation. Achieving something can also help you feel more confident in your goals and daily life.
NOW ITS YOUR TURN:
Start thinking about little things or big things that you have always wanted to do but you haven’t done. Maybe you had doubts that you couldn’t accomplish it or maybe you felt like you didn’t have enough time. I have always wanted to run a half marathon, but I never attempted it because I felt like I wasn’t skilled enough. Then I realized you don’t have to be perfect at the start, that’s where training comes in. This change in perspective motivated me to take on this new challenge. What’s the harm in at least trying? If you try and don’t do as well as you wanted, you didn’t fail. All that matters is that you tried and learned along the way. Now I am going to try and run a half marathon! What goal can you kickstart.
