Day in My Life
Hello everyone! For this week's blog post I wanted to do a “day in the life” on a school day. I love finding out different peoples’ schedules so I thought it might be interesting to write out what I do! Note that every day is not the exact same, this is just what my Tuesday looked like. Also, if you didn’t know, I have been doing online school. A huge positive of online school is that I can wake up later!
Disclaimer: Just because I do all this stuff before school in no way means that I am perfect or have my life together. I have learned that to control my stress and anxiety, I must do these things.
Tuesday for some reason was a really great day, and I hope you all had a great Tuesday as well!
Morning: At 6:20 A.M. I heard Miley Cyrus’ voice singing Midnight Sky, and I knew that it was time for me to wake up. I then turned my lamp on, put my glasses on, and hopped out of bed. I put my contacts in, washed my face, and put a big comfy sweatshirt on. I jumped back in bed and meditated for 10-15 minutes. I love meditating in the morning because, not only does it start the day off on the right foot, it is also a great way to ease yourself into waking up. Next, I did my morning stretch and morning affirmations. During this time, I also like to set an intention for the week or day. This week I wanted to focus on trusting the process, not putting too much pressure on myself, and knowing that no one is perfect. I then went downstairs got some kombucha in the Guava Goddess flavor from Synergy (if you haven’t tried this, you have to!) and ate some banana and peanut butter. I went back upstairs, made my bed, put my podcast on (I love Wild Til’ 9 or Pretty Basic), finished getting ready, and got dressed. Today I wore Lululemon Align Shorts and a shirt.
How to Ellavate your morning:
I highly recommend using a good upbeat song as your alarm instead of a boring sound because it makes waking up just a little bit better.
Know how you like your mornings. Some people can wake up 5 minutes before school and be all good to go. Even the sound of that makes me anxious because everyone's bodies and minds are so different. I know that I like to have ample time, and I hate feeling rushed in the morning.
Meditate. Meditation can help you learn how to handle various stressful situations throughout the day and is also good for a slow wake up.
Affirmations. Doing affirmations has helped me become a more confident person and has helped me destress.
Wear your favorite clothes. I love wearing athletic wear because I feel comfortable but also productive.
Day: At 7:30 A.M. I was ready to get to work. I sat in my TV room, on the couch but sitting upright. I loved working in this room because there was great natural lighting, it was a different environment then my bedroom, and it felt comfy but productive at the same time.
I really like my schedule especially because I only have two classes after lunch. I am taking AP World History, Marine Science honors, Pre-IB Chemistry, Pre-IB English, Algebra 2 honors, lunch (everyone's favorite class), AP European History, and Pre-IB Spanish.
After I had my first five classes, it was time for lunch. I had a veggie burger patty, by the brand Quinoa Cowboy from Trader Joe’s, with ketchup. During my lunch period, I typically talk to my parents, but they were out of the house so, instead I watched Young and Hungry on TV.
In between classes I try to get up and move my body for a few minutes before the next class starts. Today, I listened to the song “Flower” as I did calf raises and squats to the lyrics. You can do a myriad of exercises to these lyrics and it only takes three and a half minutes. In between some of my other classes I did 20 pushups and 20 squats. Sometimes, I even did handstands around the house before it was time to get on my next call!
Ellavate your online school day:
Find a good workspace and if you get bored, change it up!
Move your body throughout the day. Find a few exercises to do a few times in the day.
Make sure to smile 😉. Even when you are having a rough day, breathe and smile.
After School: When my last class ended, I got right to work on my homework. I always make a list of homework and other tasks so that I can be as efficient as possible. This list is just an outline so I can change the order whenever I want to be flexible.
After I did some of my homework, I decided to start my workout. Normally on Tuesdays I have tennis, but it was cancelled due to weather. Although I was sad it was canceled, I was really excited to do workout videos.
My Workout:
I had to stop my work out here because my mom told me dinner was in five minutes! So, I took a quick shower, and it was time for dinner. We had one of my favorite healthy dinners which was pork tenderloin with a sweet potato and green beans.
As you guys can see my day was going fabulously, but I also wanted to be real and incorporate some of the raw emotion that happened. During dinner I got a little over tired and over emotional, but it happens to everyone! Sometimes you just need to cry and then you feel so much better. There isn’t always a reason behind my tears, which can really make me mad, but I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to let the emotion happen.
Then, I finished dinner and studied English and Chemistry. At this point I had finished all my homework and was ready to relax.
Night: I wrote down five things I am grateful for, five things I love about myself, and two things I am proud of from the day. I incorporated this activity into my November night routine because I wanted to emphasize gratitude and put that at the front of my mind. I also think that it is important to be grateful for yourself and write it out in words. Once I finished this, I went on my phone for a few minutes, but I decided that social media wasn’t serving my goal of relaxation, so I stopped. Instead, I read my book called North, Finding My Way Through the Appalachian Trail. I have been absolutely loving this book and I have been loving to read. When you find the right book, reading melts away your worries and you can indulge yourself in the adventure taking place in the story. I ended the night by hanging out with my dad for a little bit, getting ready for bed, laying everything out for the next day, and saying goodnight to my parents! To go to sleep I like to listen to a campfire sound with a background of guitar. This can be found on the app called Insight Timer.
How to Ellavate your day in general:
Not every day is going to be a good day but try to focus the positives of your day. Try to include something little in each day that makes you excited. For example, I get excited for my workout, or to watch a show with my family, or for the weather, etc.
Challenge: My challenge to you is for this upcoming week, think of something each day that excites you or sparks even the smallest amount of joy within you, and focus on that. If you are having a hard moment in the day, remember that small piece of joy that is coming later in your day.
