Yin Yang

Goooodddd afternoon everyone! Happy Monday and if you are on spring break, happy spring break. In this post I want to talk about failure and the messiness of life.

We should hopefully all know that social media is a highlight reel of peoples’ lives. I have tried to present a more well rounded perspective in my posts, but it still holds true. Our lives are painted as a beautiful, “perfect” picture and many times people wish that this highlight reel was real life. I am here to show you why you shouldn’t want only the good in life.

The good balances out the bad and vice versa. We learn from the bad to get to the good. We have to trek through the harsh experiences of life to reap the rewards. Sometimes the bad feels way more frequent or more harsh than the good, but there will soon be a time where these will switch. Through the good and bad we learn patience and trust. We have to be patient in knowing that our good times are coming even when it doesn’t feel like it. We have to trust that the universe knows what we can handle and will only give us that much.

Without the negative, we wouldn’t know that the positive exists. We have to have examples of what is bad to know what is good. The really negative experiences help us appreciate the positive moments so much more. We become thankful and practice gratitude for the good times and the bad. One prevalent example of this in my life is in my studying. I always used to notice that so many people never had to study, but would still receive an A. I would get so angry and wish that I could be this way because I normally have to study much much more than most. I have learned to shift my mindset. I now view studying as rewarding. Although I would much rather be doing so many other things with my time, it feels good to put in the work instead of not having to work hard. This way, even if you don’t receive the grade you wish you did, you can be proud of the work you put in and know that you did your best.

Life is about learning and without failure and messiness we would never learn. No matter how many times you fail, you can succeed. It is not about the failure, it is about how you decide to get back up. You can’t sit and pout and expect that things will turn around. Get back up and try again. Don’t let each failure blow you down, instead let it give you power for the next time. Use it as ammunition to come back stronger until you get it right.

You can’t mess up life because life is about messing up. Stop being scared to try new experiences or opportunities because you are afraid to mess up. Messing up doesn’t need to keep the negative connotation that it holds. Change its meaning in your mind. Messing up can be a good thing. It can be an opportunity for growth and power and strength.

For a few years now, I have made turning bad experiences into positive lessons one of my New Years resolutions/ intentions for the year. This had helped make my life much more positive. With this  mindset, you think through each obstacle you have experienced and you think about what that can teach or did teach you. You make it a lesson. I think to myself, why do I think the universe gave me this experience? What was the learning experience here? I personally believe everything/ almost everything happens for a reason. I have found that this really works and that most times there is a lesson that comes out of the negative.
