How to Ellavate your week
On Thursday, I was in my history class and my teacher was asking us to reflect on our life experiences to help us understand the lesson. He was talking about how repetitive and boring our lives are. Others around me reflected on this information and believed this to be true. I thought to myself about how hard I try for my life to not be like this and I realized I felt the opposite of everyone else. I’ve always thought about how easy it is to do the same thing over and over and think of it as boring, but in reality it is all about your perspective. You have the power to make your life fun and I wanted to write a blog post on what I do.
As the beginning of the year adrenaline has worn off, we all need a few things to make life more exciting.
First off, you need to shift your mindset. Instead of thinking of your morning routine as repetitive, think of it as meditative and put your energy towards enjoying it. For example, although I do the same thing every morning, I love it. It makes me feel calm and at peace when I go through the same steps of my routine. If I start to feel like I need to mix things up, then I do that. I’ll work out before school or change up my breakfast or do different stretches or do a different meditation. It is about changing up the little things and being excited about it. Every morning I am so ready for my delicious bowl of healthy cereal with berries, oat milk, and kombucha on the side. Find something for breakfast that you enjoy and brightens up your day.
Next, when I go to school, I will listen to different music or a podcast to change things up. I will also change my route to school.
When I get to school, although you go to the same classes, you do different things in these classes. Your teachers have control over your lesson, but you have control over your reactions and your mindset. Choose positivity because whether you like it or not you are going to have to be at school and do assignments. So, you can either do those assignments in a bad mood and have a pessimistic view, or you can do your assignments with an optimistic view, have more fun, and live a happier life. Think about how incredibly grateful you are to have the education you have. Not everyone is as fortunate as we are to get to learn and soak up amazing information that will help us to be more well-rounded community members as well as get us into a job.
To keep your life from getting boring, plan out your afternoon. Leave time for you. Include things that you love. I promise if it is important enough, you will find time. For instance, working out and hanging out with my family are the two most important things to me. So, I always make time to move my body and have a long family dinner where I can catch up with my family.
I get variety within my life through my workouts. I pretty much never do the same type of workout two days in a row. Some days I play tennis, some I box, some I peloton, some I do yoga, and some I do workout videos. I mix it up and mix up the songs I listen to while I workout. I mix up the parts of my body I focus on, and the people I workout with.
If you value a shower or a bath, make time for that. You could even buy bath bombs, bubble bath, etc. You could light candles, listen to music, watch TV. Enjoy yourself, and make events within your day feel special.
If you have control over your meals, use that to change up your day. I am such a foodie so anything having to do with food makes me ecstatic. I change up my lunch and try to have fun with what my family eats for dinner. Sometimes if I’m just feeling blah and like I need something special, I’ll find a sweet treat to eat.
If you need motivation for your homework, FaceTime someone or invite a friend over to do homework with you. Sometimes, I’ll go to a coffee shop or restaurant, get a drink or food, and do my homework with a friend. Even if you don’t leave your house, change up where you do your homework.
Do something to relax. Watch TV by yourself or with someone, read a book, do yoga, meditate, stretch, etc.
There is always a way to spice up your life, sometimes it’s obvious and other times you may need to dig a little deeper. Get creative and shift your mindset.
