Getting Settled in College: My Schedule and Updates

Happy Sunday everyone!! This is the first blog post I am writing from Chapel Hill, North Carolina and I couldn’t be more excited. I moved in to UNC Chapel Hill on Wednesday the 16th of August. I am already having the best time ever and feel so at home. With that being said, I want to share how I have been able to feel that way.

I was sad to leave home at the thought of saying goodbye to the Yoga Shack, family, and friends. I was scared that the future wouldn’t compare to the now, but I knew there was so much excitement to come. I had to let myself enjoy the current moment and be happy, but not get too scared at the idea of leaving it all. Admitting to myself that change is good even if it is different allowed me to feel more confident about the transition.

Once I got to college, I focused on meeting new people, having fun, and getting organized. This has kept me so busy and so happy. Remember that there can be beauty in the past and beauty in the future not just one or the other.

You have the ability to make your college experience whatever you want it to be. This also doesn’t just apply to college. You have the ability to make high school, life, etc. as good as it can be. For example, high school wasn’t my favorite thing ever for a myriad of reasons, but I made the best of it. I found my yoga community that lit me up from the inside out. I bonded with my family more than I thought was possible. I studied and worked hard which sparked a fire of motivation and dedication within me and hung out with friends experiencing new things. I plan to do the same thing here. You have to know yourself though. In all of life you can get caught up in what everyone else is doing that you forget what you want to do. Don’t let anyone tell you what you have to do. Don’t compare yourself because we are all different. Be you fully and authentically and what is right for you will come to you. If you pretend to be someone you aren’t, you won’t be able to form deep connections with people and experiences because you won’t relate to them as well. So many people are afraid to be themselves. Ask yourself, What specifically is scaring me? Then, try to address that. Life is too short to care what other people think about you. Especially because happy people want others to be happy.

School starts tomorrow which is super exciting, but also super nerve-racking. In preparation I have been getting my room all sorted out, cleaning, and organizing. A clean space encourages a clean mind. I know that whenever my room is messy I get stressed so for these past few days I have been getting everything squared away and deciding what I still need.

I have been having so much fun going out and meeting new people, but the day before school starts as always been my me day. I like to have a day where I sleep in, take care of myself, and mentally prepare for school. The night before I like to lay out a rough plan and then add to it in the morning. I like to write every little thing that I have to do down so I don’t forget. Here is my Sunday:
