Intention Setting & Organization

Ok you guys, it has been a hot minute. Lots has been going on and I didn’t feel called to write or share anything. I never want to write just to post something if there is nothing urging me to do so.

I am currently flying back from one of my favorite trips. Every year, skiing with my family is one of the highlights of my life. The peace and adrenaline I feel on the slopes is unmatched. I let loose, ate good food, listened to my soul, and embraced joy.

I love to eat healthy and be productive and live by routine, but I also think allowing time and space for the opposite is also important. Before this trip, I felt like I was getting in a rut. I didn’t feel like doing work, I was tired all the time, and everything felt like it took 10 times more energy than normal.

This trip was perfect because I was able to sleep in, go to bed early, have fun, move my body in a different way, and replenish my belly. This was the reset that I needed.

It can be hard for me to let loose, but I remind myself that life is about joy and your body and mind always know what you need.

With this in mind, I am ready to get back into my routine and go kill it! I am using today to do some work and then when I get back to Chapel Hill I am going to walk to the grocery store. I love going to the grocery store right after a trip so I can restock and prep for the week. It’s also an hour walk each way so its a nice low-impact form of activity.

After that, I always try to unpack and clean the day I get back or else it seems to drag on and become a mess. I am going to make this process as enjoyable as possible. Instead of dreading cleaning or unpacking, I usually do homework before and then as my break, I watch TV and unpack/clean.

I will plan out my week and what assignments I have coming up and then I definitely want to meditate and stretch.

I want to set my goals/intentions for the week and how I will complete them. After a fun-filled vacation I like to use intentions to get myself back on track. It can be easy for negative self-talk to creep in, but I keep my intentions positive and understand that everything is apart of the journey.

Intention setting:

Before setting you intentions, reflect. What are you feeling? What do you want to keep the same? Change? What do you want this week to accomplish?

  • Right now I feel happy, but a bit stressed. I feel extremely grateful, yet anxious.

  • I feel well-feed, but ready to eat healthy and get back to my routine

  • I feel a little all-over the place, but at the same time grounded

Now, think of intentions that align with what you want to feel and your goals for the week.

  1. No negative self-talk. Stay positive and grateful. No regrets.

  • Positive affirmations daily

  • Journal

2. Stay calm because everything will work out

  • Meditate

  • Take things step by step

3. Exercise, eat well, and get back to schedule

  • Morning workouts

  • Healthy, whole foods

  • 6 am wake up!

4. Have fun with the challenge

  • Make tasks as enjoyable as possible

5. Be productive

  • Tons of studying to do. Make a plan, and execute it.

  • Stay focused

Now that I have made a few intentions, my next step is to go deeper on how I will implement steps to reach these goals.

With no negative self-talk, I think about what I am struggling with and make positive affirmations that counteract any hateful words. For example, I am beautiful, I am enough, I am allowed to let go, I am balanced, I can do this, I am capable.

Don’t let your doubts dictate your life. We all struggle, we just have to find a way to address and alleviate the challenge in a healthy way.

This week I am channeling gratitude, readiness, and productivity with peace.

Since I was feeling anxious about my next few weeks ahead. I played out all of my exams and began to make a study plan for each. I also had to factor in my normal homework and come up with a schedule that would work for me. This week I have a Peace, War, and Defense (PWAD) midterm, next week I have a Statistics midterm, and the week after an economics midterm. With so much ahead, I know it is going to be important to be productive, organized, and calm. I know I am capable, but it is easy to let a to-do list overwhelm you.

Here is this weeks schedule of school assignments:

  • PWAD test Thursday

  • Stats test next Monday

  • Do econ problem set

  • Stats hw

Sunday:

  • Grocery

  • Post blog

  • Finish econ ch 35

  • Maybe start PWAD cheat sheet

  • Get organized

Monday:

  • Econ problem set

  • Stats homework and review, make study sheet

  • PWAD study sheet

Tuesday:

  • PWAD study

  • Stats study

  • Econ next chapter

Wednesday:

  • Problem set zoom @ 2:30-3:30

  • PWAD study

Thursday:

*PWAD test

  • Stats study

Friday:

  • Stats study!!

  • Econ study?

Before each day I will also make a schedule of these tasks along with my jobs and whatever else may come up. I know that at the beginning of the week I want to get each subject prepped and mainly focus on PWAD because my exam is Thursday. After that exam, I will mainly focus on Stats.

For me, economics requires a lot of focus and attention so it is always weaved within my schedule. However, other classes take precedence when I have a midterm.

During busy times it is even more important to ensure that you leave time for things that refill your cup and allow you to keep going through the days. I also make sure I have time to workout, and I know I will need to make time to meditate. I need my sleep so for the most part I won’t compromise that and regardless, I know I work better in the morning.

Instead of feeling worried and overwhelmed, I choose to feel empowered and ready for challenge. I choose to make the most of this week no matter how tough it gets. We can do this!
