Chakras 5-7

This post is a continuation of last weeks post explaining the chakras in-depth! You can use the knowledge of these chakras to find the root cause of your suffering and from there, relieve it. This can help with self-awareness, self-healing, and self-confidence. In aligning your chakras you can create a harmonious relationship between mind, body, and soul.

Throat Chakra, Vishuddha:

“Vishuddha” means pure

Location: The throat/neck

Color: Light blue/turquoise

Element: Ether, “the clear sky; the upper regions of air beyond the clouds.” This is showing that our true selves come from the emptiness, and our inner child.

Meaning: This chakra surrounds proper communication with oneself and others. I believe communication is the stem of all relationships therefore good communication results in a good relationship. With this, it is of utmost importance that this chakra be free from blockage. This chakra allows the mind and emotions to come together as one. It connects your basic needs to the divinity as it is the linkage between the first four chakras representing earth elements and the last two representing spiritual energy. Here you find you voice and are able to express your truth. You must speak your personal truth as it is your dharma, duty, to share what you feel needs to be spread. Your voice is one of your greatest and most powerful traits, and this doesn’t mean that you have to use your voice for it to hold power. Silence is powerful too.

When this chakra is out of balance, you have a hard time communicating with yourself and others. You cannot easily express yourself and what you want. You feel insecure, shy, and have difficulty making decisions. Argumentation and confrontation may make you shut down. If this chakra is hyperactive, you may talk too much, dominate the conversation, & interrupt others.

How to balance it:

Take care of your throat/neck. Stretch it out, drink warm liquids. Chant, sing, hum. Get energy flowing through your throat. Practice poses such as camel, cobra, table top, cat/cow, child’s pose, bow pose, etc.

Ajna Chakra, Third-Eye:

Location: Between the eyes

Color: Indigo

Element: Light, having the ability to see

Meaning: This chakra is known as the “seat of intuition.” This space allows for clear thought, consciousness/higher consciousness, wisdom, contemplation. It links sight with understanding of the self. This comes with self-intuition and the “sixth-sense.” It represents creativity, visualization, imagination, a sense of knowing, etc. With this, you trust the universe as it takes you along your path. You can detach from the physical body, take a step back, get out of your head, and see what is really true. Find your soul from within and from there, you will be able to create the life and the self you have always wanted.

You will know this chakra is unbalanced when you have difficulty focusing, mental fog, sleep issues, etc. Further, you will feel self-doubt, unwillingness to look inside yourself, worry, the need for validation. This can be caused by being too embedded in the physical world.

Personal note: OMG! As I was doing research, I realized that before I left for my YTT my third chakra was most definitely blocked. I was always doubting myself even though I seemed confident, I looked to others (specifically my parents) for validation, I was constantly worrying, etc. Through the philosophy, yoga, and meditation classes, I was able to unblock my sixth chakra and thus find trust within the world. When you start to trust your journey life begins to come together and everything starts to feel right. I know that this sounds silly, but when you experience it the way I have, you will feel blown away.

How to balance it: For one, look into more philosophy, meditation, and yoga just as I did. Read over some of my blog posts and others posts on those topics. Read inspirational quotes to form a sense of trust in yourself and in the world. Life becomes so much better when you start to trust what is happening. Now of course, you still have to put in the work, but stop going against yourself. Listen to the body, mind, and soul. They all have something extremely valuable to say, you just have to open your ears, eyes, and heart.

Work on releasing tension in the face, neck, and shoulders to clam yourself down. Practice breathing slowly. One technique is to breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7, and exhale for 8. This will help reduce anxiety.

Balancing this chakra requires an immense amount of personal work and growth. You must want to put the work in to change your ways and become a better version of yourself. Be open-minded, try new things, honor what you need and when you need it.

Each time something happens to you, think of a reason for why it may have happened. For instance, maybe you got stuck in traffic and were late to work and your boss yelled at you. This might show you that you need to be more organized, manage your time more effectively, plan out your schedule, &/or to let things go even when those with more “power” get made at you. Maybe your parents surprise you with a vacation. This could be because you started to do things without asking, brought your grades up, worked really hard, etc.

Sahasrara chakra, Crown:

Location: The top of the head

Color: Violet/white

Element: None. The crown chakra transcends the physical body therefore allowing pure energy to flow.

Meaning: This is the center of one’s spiritual connection and expresses universal consciousness. If you believe in a God or higher power, this would be the vessel through which to connect. Relates to the supreme Self and allows a flow of enlightenment. This chakra has similar meaning to the previous chakra but continues to relate to spirituality and your life’s purpose. When you become one with this chakra you will feel a sense of spiritual ecstasy and bliss. To connect you to the divine, it inspires and lifts you through life. This chakra connects you back to the Hindu perspective of things in which states that the soul is eternal and universal.

If you live in your head, are disconnected from the spiritual world, or closed-minded this chakra may be blocked. You will also feel disconnected and ungrounded.

How to balance it:

Do a crown chakra visualization meditation. For this, sit in a meditative seat, close down the eyes, and see a purple light surrounding the crown of your head and spreading throughout your body. Yoga poses such as shavasana and headstand can unblock this chakra as well. Also, focus on the divine energy running throughout you.

As you can see, from each chakra you cultivate a deeper sense of self. You begin to know yourself , treat yourself with kindness, and then portray these qualities outward. We must first focus on the self to be able to focus on others. To further unblock each chakra you can look up meditations or yoga flows dedicated to each one.
